At Affix Architecture & Interiors, we believe that thoughtful design is about creating homes that balance simplicity, character, and functionality. This 3,100 square foot residential project in Cheruvanchery was designed as a harmonious blend of traditional Keralite architecture with contemporary elements. The home features a distinctive contemporary elevation with a sloped roof, giving the residence a modern yet familiar character that complements its surroundings.

The interiors follow a simple and refined approach, reflecting the client’s preference for a clean and uncomplicated living environment. Creating a simple interior while maintaining visual interest and functionality was one of the key challenges of the project. The design incorporates wooden veneer finishes and contemporary details to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. A flat-turn staircase with a mild steel handrail adds a stylish element to the modern and minimalist interior, while the open living area, extending to an impressive 7-meter height, creates a strong sense of spaciousness and openness.

The color palette draws inspiration from the shades of Arabian desert sands and their surrounding ecosystem. Soft, earthy tones create a calm and cohesive atmosphere throughout the home, while carefully selected sofas and curtains add character and act almost like decorative works of art within the spaces.

Situated on high-altitude land, the property benefits from expansive and pleasant views, giving the residence an enhanced sense of scale and openness. The architectural and landscape elements are carefully integrated to strengthen the connection between the home and its natural setting. Steps running throughout the verandah, supported by cylindrical columns and complemented by white marble flooring, create a harmonious transition between the building and the surrounding landscape.

Special attention has been given to material selection and visual details. From the main entrance, the view is directed towards a CNC grill board partition, creating an attractive focal point as soon as one enters the house. Wooden steps enhanced with LED strips add warmth and subtle illumination, while 6×4 satin matte Italian joint-free tiles provide a clean and sophisticated flooring finish. The mezzanine floor incorporates wooden-textured tiles, adding another layer of warmth and contemporary character to the interiors.

The bedrooms have been designed with comfort and privacy in mind. Four bedrooms feature spacious 3.9 x 3.3 meter layouts, each accompanied by a separate dressing area and attached washroom. This thoughtful planning ensures that every private space provides both functionality and convenience.

The landscape design further enhances the character of the residence with a refreshing garden and stone-paved pathways. Wider steps from the front yard lead down towards the garden, creating a distinctive transition between the house and the landscaped surroundings. Together, the architecture, interiors, materials, and landscape create a contemporary Kerala home that responds thoughtfully to the client’s requirements while maintaining a strong connection with its setting.

Completed over a 16-month construction period, this residential project reflects Affix Architecture & Interiors’ approach to creating contemporary homes that combine simplicity, functionality, warmth, and a strong sense of place.
