Here is team Affix’s unique architectural drive featuring the designing of Kunninu Thazha Masjid at Cheruvanchery, with distinct adaptation of a mix of Indo-Islamic architecture & traditional, tropical Kerala architectural fundamentals to suit the suit the climatic conditions and construction elements of Kerala!
With the landscape spread out at 1105.4sqft, having a broad spread out prayer hall, this project was accomplished over a span of 4 months. Though at the initial level the challenges faced were that of designing a unique exterior and interior, as against the usual traditional ones, we ultimately achieved it by the right choice of elements, materials & paint. Producing a result sanctioned by the client!
We kept it as traditional as possible and yet added a touch of modernity with a highly ornamental style that composites great design!
Keeping in mind the location specialty and the climate, we used elements that would bring in a pleasant and comfortable ambience. Designing the space based on a proper proportion, subtle & precise use of artificial illumination and Islamic non-figurative forms of decoration.
Elements like wooden veneer finish, was meticulously handpicked and finished to bring in exceptionally high standards. The use of special materials by the designers brought in a unique amalgam to the structure. The use of wood and CNC demonstrate the dramatic range of shapes modern wood construction can take and add an alluring attraction. The wood and CNC grill board design not just added a charm but also had traditional methods combined with modern joints for strengthening.
The art work over the interior dome ceiling and the antique Islamic chandelier lights are the most significant design features to be noted. Beige floor carpets were used to enhance the décor! They also add a sense of versatility, warmth, insulation & comfort to the space!
The view from the main entrance is designed to focus on the MINBAR. As for the architectural speciality, using the actuated traditional forms, domes and minarets of the Indo-Islamic architecture are being projected. Unlike the usual styles, here we added unique dome ceiling to the interior, giving it a distinctive design feature. Addition of tile and other interior elements to the structure gives warm and classy feeling to the interior. Mounted underneath, middle of the domes, simple ceiling lamps was added to compliment the interior walls with warm glow & highlight the striking artworks. A variety of ceiling design and pattern were added to augment life to the space!
The Colour theme was selected to compliment the interior and exterior as well and keep a sustained balance throughout the structure. A combination of ‘beige tint ‘for the Interior and ‘Mocha Mousse’ with ‘Rock Wall’ for the exterior were used. Since beige tint bring in a sense of instant warmth to the room & it basically symbolises piety or simplicity. ‘Mocha Mousse’ gives a look of luxury & the color stays rich for ages! That’s the catch here! Blending it with ‘Rock Wall’ paint only captures subtle contours, naturally adding an exclusive finish!
