Located on a high-altitude land that surrounds Thalayi in Kozhikode, Kerala, Affix architecture has designed this 12,000 sqft residence for client Salim Thalai & family. The team has been working with sensitivity to nature to create contemporary designs with classic regional references that address tropical modernism with an architecture that resonates within its context and time!
In this home designed for client Salim Thalai, the former wished to inculcate a unique exterior. The client’s requirement was realized through enriching the architectural design of the dome-type ceiling which resembles the Hagia Sofia in turkey!
The traditional style of architecture here brings with it a blend of contemporary design. The space had wide private space for accommodating people and different situations for gatherings, so a large open courtyard with a height of 7 meters was set up clearly to entertain the guests.
A huge space that it was truly deserved the beauty and aesthetics of refreshing garden with stone-paved pathways all around, with Mango trees, Pall trees, etc… under each of which a seating arrangement was made to arouse a feeling of nostalgia of being amidst nature! The culture of entertaining guests in Kerala homes is a very strong tradition and hence we designed the house to effortlessly facilitate these through its architectural landscaping!
Also, a swirling driveway was designed through the middle of the garden to reach the underground parking area; the pathway was laid out with cobblestones to enhance the grip for an easy and comfortable drive-through!
Adding to the extravagance of landscaping, we dedicated an open swimming pool that was fit at the end of the garden area around the backside of the house for a more private and cool atmosphere!
The interiors include an overlay of contemporary industrial materials with a rustic finish in contrast with subtle textures creating a minimal appeal. In combination with designs of Arch, spiral, dome, stripes, ornamental, and lines, that connects with the ambiance of modernity to the coastal environment around to create a calm and concordant composition!
Spiral two-way staircases designed with careful attention and compact designing; give a unique ambiance synonymous with extravagant luxurious spacing! With Lily pools in the sides of the home, nature is summoned into the house inviting beatific, greener vibes!
For the space’s interior contemporary architecture we made use of some authentic and classy special materials like Turkish marble that enhances the elegance of luxury and quality, the strong and sturdy teak wood, Sandstone Pillars that add grandeur of lavish embellishment! Handmade artificial cladding stones bring a custom-made décor that one would watch in awe!
The color theme used visually connects the indoors and the outdoors with the shades of Arabian deserts and their ecosystem! Providing a modern touch without radically breaking the contemporary aesthetics sought by the client, Saleem Thalayi’s house by Affix Architecture proposes an architecture that is responsive to the traditional, naturist, and modernity of the times!
